Newham United Against Food Waste Initiative
Providing fresh foods for the Newham community and lowering carbon emissions
What is our project?
How does it work?
Our Community Pantry
We are grateful to have received a generous fund from The Naturesave Trust and funding boost from the ScottishPower Foundation, we are excited to announce the launch of The Renewal Programme’s new initiative, Newham United Against Food Waste.
This support will aid us in our effort to combat food insecurity in Newham, in a way that is mindful of the community’s environment and cultural needs through our Newham United Against Food Waste Initiative.
Surplus food is donated from local business in the community, this ensures our food is inclusive and diverse to match our community. Our volunteers collect the food using eco-friendly cargo bikes, which help to reduce our carbon footprint. The food is then dropped to our community pantry or to Newham Food Banks
Our community pantry aims to provide fresh food and toiletries for a lower price, allowing residents to gain independence. We provide culturally appropriate foods to empower our diverse community.

Testimonials
“It is a real pleasure to support the work of the Renewal Program which brings benefits directly to the heart of the community in Newham. We hope our grant, which has positive environmental impacts, also provides the additional bonus of improving health and wellbeing, that arises from switching to transporting food by bike.” – Nick Oldridge, Head of Marketing & Sustainability Quote from the NaturesaveTrust
