The Renewal Programme announce a transformative new partnership with Edhi Foundation to tackle food insecurity and provide vital immigration support in Newham
The Renewal Programme is proud to announce a significant new partnership with the Edhi Foundation, launched at a community event held on the 10th of April 2025. This collaborative initiative aims to address the urgent challenges of food insecurity and provide vital immigration support to vulnerable individuals and families across Newham.

The launch event, held at the Renewal Programme’s centre on High Street North, brought together local stakeholders, community members, and civic leaders to celebrate the shared values and ambitious vision behind this partnership. Speakers included Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham, Peter Laing, CEO of the Renewal Programme, Faheem Bin Rahim, speaking on behalf of Edhi Foundation.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Newham praised the partnership as “an inspiring example of grassroots collaboration,” emphasising the importance of community-driven responses in tackling issues that disproportionately affect some of the borough’s most marginalised residents. Peter Laing highlighted the power of unity in meeting growing demand: “Newham continues to face a rising need for food and immigration support, and this partnership will allow us to scale up our efforts in a sustainable, compassionate, and community-led way.”
The partnership comes at a critical time. As one of London’s most diverse and densely populated boroughs, Newham has one of the highest rates of poverty and food insecurity in the UK. Additionally, the borough is home to a large number of migrants, many of whom face barriers to accessing vital legal and immigration advice.
Through this collaboration, the Edhi Foundation – globally known for its humanitarian work – will help bolster the Renewal Programme’s existing services by:
- Supporting the distribution of food and essential supplies to those experiencing hardship.
- Expanding immigration support services
The launch event also served as a space for storytelling and reflection, with moving testimonies from volunteers who shared how their participation in the Renewal Programme’s services and projects have already impacted their lives.
Edhi Foundation, founded by the late Abdul Sattar Edhi, is one of the world’s largest and most respected humanitarian organisations. Rooted in the values of compassion, dignity, and service to humanity, the Foundation has spent decades supporting vulnerable communities globally — regardless of race, religion, or background. Its work in the UK continues that legacy, bringing hope and practical support to those who need it most. We are honoured to be the first organisation that Edhi Foundation has partnered with in the UK, and through their support, we hope to benefit 1500 Newham residents in the next year.
