Sometimes all it takes is a friendly voice and good chat to lift our spirits and help us feel more positive. With this in mind, London Borough of Newham have created Connect Newham.
What is Connect Newham?
London Borough of Newham have partnered with the Renewal Programme, Subco Trust and Age UK to support vulnerable isolated people in the community.
Connect Newham is a befriending service that offers a telephone and/or an in-person support.
After a successful second year, our telephone befriending service has now come to an end and therefore will only be providing in-person befriending (Activity Buddy) to Newham residence.
How does the service work?
The service has been designed to be accessed easily by residents.
There are two steps to the process:
1. We’ll have an initial conversation, over the phone, where you can tell us a little about yourself and decide how many visit you would like, from 3 to 20 weeks (once a week visit).
2. We match you with an Activity Buddy for a weekly or fortnightly visit. The Activity Buddy will meet outside your home and take you to a local park or activity, within a timeframe that has been agreed by you both.
We will signpost/refer you into wider provision and invite you to our support groups at the Renewal Programme. More details can be found on our flyers. Everyone is welcomed to these groups!
Useful information
The Renewal Programme is currently not taking any referrals for our Connect Newham project. We will no longer provide one-to-one in-person support to Newham residents, as we are prioritizing clients currently under our care.
