Energy Champion Volunteer
Our Energy Champion role is part of our Stay Warm in Newham project in partnership with with Newham council, the Cadent Foundation, Groundwork London and Skills Enterprise to deliver a community led Energy Champions programme that supports vulnerable communities who are struggling to pay their energy bills.
As part of our Energy Champion volunteer team, our volunteers contribute to the lives of people who may benefit from the services we offer. Our volunteers help by listening to our community, signposting and supporting community members to access support that addresses their concerns
Meet Mobina, one of our Energy Champion Volunteers. Mobina was doing her masters in cultural Psychology and Psychiatry and joined our volunteers to gain front line experience in cultural sensitivity.
Mobina was touched by how people were remaining positive even under stress and struggles caused by Fuel poverty and other social and financial barriers. She learned that her support could made a difference to the community, that they did not have to face their problems on their own.
Mobina helped community members make changes to reduce their energy bill and access other support to address barriers they face. She signposted members to immigration advice, housing, food bank, and made referrals to green doctors for debt advice.
Our Energy Champions make a positive change by supporting, signposting community members struggling with their gas and energy bill using training from expert Green Doctors.
