Our Digital Inclusion Programme is a big part of our work, and it runs from the Community Hub. We started it because we recognised that in Newham there was large scale digital exclusion.
A lack of digital access can have a huge effect on a person’s life. For some it can mean poorer health and even a lower life expectancy and it can also increase loneliness and social isolation and offers less access to jobs and education.
It can lead to people having to pay more for their essentials and also carries with it an increased risk of experiencing poverty. Also, as government services and discussions continue to move online, people lack a chance to have their say.
And unfortunately, it is those already at a disadvantage who are most likely to be affected, increasing the social equality gap.
Denise’s Story:
One person who came to our Community Hub to use the Digital Inclusion service was Denise.
“I approached The Renewal Programme as I did not have enough finance to acquire an electronic device.
However, grace to this programme, I was able to be provided one that enabled me to use daily”
When Denise came to the Community Hub and used our Digital Inclusion service, it really helped her to continue her studies.
“The Renewal Programme has enabled me to acquire an electronic device and has also been provided with Wi-Fi that enabled me to carry on my studies.
There is a huge difference; I have been able to have the electronic device and Wi-Fi to use anytime, anywhere and feel comfortable.
I have a peace of mind as I had not been asked to leave the Hub because they are closing it.
I have been able to continue my study peacefully without any distractions.“
When Denise was asked why she thinks people should support the Renewal Hub she said:
“Donating to The Renewal Programme is important and indispensable because through this programme many of our needs have been met. There are still many people who need support and help. Hence, The Renewal Programme should be encouraged and provided with donations to continue their hard work.“
