50 Years, 50 Faces: Alex Skourtis
“My name is Alex Skourtis, I live in West London but throughout my career I have been working and commuting to the East. I came to the UK from Greece back in 1999 to study Astrophysics but ended up working in Financial IT after finishing university and moving to London. I spend most of my spare time with my 3 year old daughter and exploring an ever changing London.
I was looking to give more of my time to charity and, with my background, I thought that one of the most impactful ways to do this was by becoming a Trustee. I found the Renewal Programme at a BoardMatch event by ELBA. I researched all the charities and the Renewal Programme was the one that resonated the most with me and whose mission statement was aligned to my own targets.
The values of the Renewal Programme are very powerful and underpin everything we do and what we want to achieve. They build upon our mission to make the people of the local community come together, work together and fulfil their potential.
The beauty of the Renewal Programme is that all of its services work synergistically to support people and guide them through their journey.
The Renewal Programme is full of great people, people that will make you feel at ease from the moment you meet them. However, from our first meeting I was impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of our Supported Housing Service Manager Paul. I also need to give a shout out to Victoria, our Digital Marketing and Communications Officer, for single handedly building the organisation’s digital presence essentially from scratch.
The Renewal Programme has become much more than I expected; I feel truly connected with its mission and very proud of its achievements.”
